A Study on the Effects of Child-Centered Play Teaching on the Mother's Interaction Behaviors and the Child's Communicative Ability : A Case Study |

ABSTRACT |
The purpos e of the pr es ent s tudy was to inves tigate the effects of child- center ed play teaching by parent education to enhance mother s inter action behaviors and infants communicative ability. The subjects of this s tudy wer e a language delayed 4- year old child and his mother . A speech- language pathologis t educated the mother us ing modeling and feedback while watching the videotape of the mother - child inter active plays which took place for about 6 month, 2 s ess ions per weeks . Mother s inter active behaviors were measur ed by P/CIS (Parent/Car egiver Involvement Scales ) des igned by Farr an et al.(1986) and the childs communicative ability was measur ed by the normal childr en s miles tones of language development(Weitzman, 1992). The r esults of the s tudy could be summed up as follows : (1) Mother s over all inter active behaviors were shown to be improved in the amount , quality, appropr iateness and gener al impress ion; (2) the child s communicative ability was also improved in all aspects , for example, in the number of communicative behaviors and in the per centage of appropr iate behaviors. |
