ABSTRACT
The present study was designed to compare four measures of utterance length (MLUM , MLUW , MSLM , and MSLW ) among the language- delayed group (LD), their CA-matched group (N- CA), and their LA-matched group (N-LA). Forty- five subject s, each group with 15 children, participated in the study. Each child' s spontaneous utterances were collected in free play settings. Each utterance was analyzed by the number of morphemes and the number of words. The following result s were obtained: (1) significant differences were found in the four measures of utterance length among three groups, (2) All four measures were found to discriminate the LD group and their CA-matched group. (3) Three measures (MLUW , MLUM , and MSLM ) were found to discriminate the LD group and their LA-matched group.
